Monet's Irises comes from his own garden at Giverny, where he planted long beds of them to paint — tall purple-blue flowers rising on green stems, massed so thickly they blur into a shifting weave of colour and leaf. There is no arrangement, no vase, only the border itself seen close and alive. He gardened as carefully as he painted, and it shows. On a wall you pass each day, it brings the cool, planted freshness of a garden in full growth.
