Delacroix's Four Sketches of Arab Men gathers a sheet of figure studies from his North African journey — four seated and standing forms in flowing dress, drawn swiftly from life with an eye alert to gesture, fabric and repose. Those travels changed his art, and the studies keep their unhurried, on-the-spot immediacy. For a study or a quiet hallway, it offers something human and observed, a handful of calm moments caught and kept on the page.
