Goya's Bury them and keep quiet, plate eighteen of the Disasters of War, gives its grim, plain instruction as title and image alike — survivors among the fallen, grief pressed down into silence and the bare work of burial. It is one of the series' quietest and most desolate plates, mourning without a word of consolation. The etching is spare, the darks heavy.
