George Inness's The Storm gathers weather over the land — trees stirred by wind, a sky heavy and shifting, the whole scene held in the soft, atmospheric tone he made his signature. It is less about drama than about mood, the charged hush before rain. Painted to be felt as much as seen. Above a mantel or in a hallway, it brings that low, expectant calm of changing weather, a quiet, breathing landscape that settles a room.
