Hiroshige's Bamboo Yards, Kyōbashi Bridge shows the bridge by night — travellers crossing in dark silhouette, tall rafts of bamboo stacked along the river, a pale full moon above. From One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, it's an evening scene held in deep blues, quiet and a little mysterious. The verticals of the bamboo give it an unusual, graphic calm. It suits a bedroom or a hallway, somewhere the day has already wound down.
